The Board of Directors is the oversight board for the U-SU comprised of student leaders who interact with campus faculty and staff to help provide direction for the U-SU and advocacy for students at Cal State LA. There are 8 positions in total: 6 student directors, 1 vice-chair, and 1 chair.

Responsibilities and Requirements
Some responsibilities include:
- Be available to meet in person every Friday during the semester from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
- Attend monthly Board of Director meetings and Committees (2 to 3 times a month)
- Attend Board Orientation (August prior to class starting) and monthly trainings (1 to 2x/month)
- Serve on at least two assigned sub-committees
- As an undergraduate member, you must maintain a 2.0 GPA each semester of each term
- As a graduate member, you must maintain a 3.0 GPA each semester of each term
The BOD has the following standing committees:
- The Audit Committee will review the selection of the audit firm (if applicable), review and recommend to accept the audit to the Board of Directors in compliance wtih the appropriate audit standards
- The Fiscal Committee will recommend to the Board policies regarding fiscal matters, including but not limited to operations, support, review of its budget and modifications. The committee will approve the annual budget process and recommend approving the budget to the Board of Directors
- The Personnel Committee will develop and recommend to the Board policies regarding personnel such as hiring, termination, evaluations, salaries, grievances, and employee benefits
- The Nominating committee will assist with the annual election process in conjunction with ASI and will review eligible candidates and nominate a replacement in the case of a vacancy of a student director to the Board

- $295 per semester for the Board Chair
- $250 per semester for all other Student Directors
Eligibility
Eligibility to serve on the Board of Directors will be verified by the Office of the Dean of Students.
General Applicant/Candidate Requirements
- Be considered in good standing with the University -must not be on academic, disciplinary or administrative probation
- Been enrolled at Cal State LA for one (1) semester prior to application
- Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA during the last 12 months
- Be available for scheduled meetings
Undergraduate Applicant Requirements
- Have been enrolled at Cal State LA and completed two quarters prior to applying
- Have earned no fewer than 9 quarter units of academic credit during that year prior to consideration
- Have earned a 2.0 or better grade point average during the 12 months immediately preceding the quarter in which the appointment occurs
Graduate Applicant Requirements
- Earned a total of twelve (12) units during the last year as an undergraduate if the applicant’s BA/BS was received from Cal State LA within the past 3 years
- Earned at least three (3) units per semester of continuous attendance
- Enrolled in at least three (3) semester units during the term the appointment/election occurs
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA each semester while in office
- Earned less than 50 semester units
